THE POSITION

The Lowell School District is seeking an outstanding, highly qualified elementary teacher for grades K-6 at Lundy Elementary School.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The chosen candidate will be working as a member of a team in the planning and implementation of instructional programs. A primary focus of the teachers will be to promote a high level of achievement for all students while considering the background and developmental level of the individual student.  Additionally the candidates will be responsible for providing a positive learning environment in his/her classroom.  Teachers with endorsements in reading and ESL are preferred.

 

ELEMENTARY TEACHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work as a member of a team in the planning and implementation of instructional programs
  • Has the skills needed to facilitate selection and implementation of core, supplemental and intervention instructional resources to meet specific student needs
  • Has demonstrated success as a teacher
  • Has a working knowledge of CCSS and Smarter Balanced Assessment
  • Experience with teaching research-based curriculum designed to increase subject area understanding and skills
  • Strong skills in the areas of literacy, writing and math
  • Collaboratively plans and implements an effective, evidenced-based program that aligns with other grades, Common Core standards and district goals, and that meets the identified skill needs of individual students
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques
  • Assess student learning and adjust instruction on a regular basis to meet the needs of the students
  • Experience with formative assessments, data-based instructional methods and differentiated instruction
  • Excellent behavior management skills and ability to articulate and implement a well-developed classroom management plan
  • High expectations for students – academically, behaviorally and individually
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills between staff, parents, students, administration and the community
  • Strong technology skills and the ability to integrate technology seamlessly into instruction
  • Ability to implement and monitor Common Core State Standards
  • Aptitude for administering and analyzing EasyCBM data
  • Knowledge about the role of the classroom teacher in executing individual student plans, including IEPs, and 504s
  • Ability to develop and communicate appropriate performance standards to students and parents
  • Willingness to participate on school-level teams that analyze student data and make decisions about appropriate instructional supports to enhance student learning
  • Well organized
  • Able to design lesson plans aligned to the Common Core
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the principal and/or superintendent

 

ASSIGNMENT           

Conducts all regular classroom activities as designated by the School District.  This job description applies to all general elementary classroom teacher positions.

ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes and maintains orderly and supportive classroom environment in which students are actively participating and show respect for one another and for the teacher.
  • Maintains a physical environment conducive to learning.
  • Plans a program of study designed to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Ensures that instructional activities and materials are clearly related to state, district and school goals and objectives, and that District-approved materials are used as the core of instruction.
  • Conducts interesting and well-paced classes, using a variety of instructional techniques, strategies, and media appropriate to the lesson and the needs and capabilities of the students.
  • Identifies, diagnoses, and prescribes remediation for individual learning difficulties.
  • Maximizes time when students are paying attention and working on tasks directly related to the subject matter.
  • Makes sure students understand what to do before undertaking assignments.
  • Assesses, records, and provides feedback promptly and often to students on their progress and assignments__maintaining such records as required by law and District policy.
  • Collaborates to develop Individual Education Programs (IEP's).
  • Upon request, assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Responds in a cooperative and positive manner to supervision.
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both academic and behavioral progress of students.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with classified staff, licensed staff, and support personnel to establish a positive work environment.
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned duties, e.g., lunch count, breakfast duty, etc.
  • Takes precautions to provide for health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, material, and facilities.
  • Assists the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
  • Achieves professional growth through consultation with District support staff and attendance at building and District in-service meetings.
  • Establishes and maintains a good working relationship with building administrators and staff__cooperating to resolve problems in a professional manner so that the concerns of all parties are considered.
  • Participates in activities which are related to school functions and/or the educative process which occur outside the regular school day, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Follows specified standards, policies, and procedures of the building and District.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Oregon Elementary Teaching License.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development at each level of instruction.
  • Fluent in oral and written English communication.

 

SALARY                     

  • Will be determined by terms of the current negotiated agreement.
  • The amount due under the contract will be pro-rated monthly in accordance with district policy.

 

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
