THE POSITION
The Lowell School District seeks outstanding, highly qualified candidates for a full-time maintenance, operations and technology specialist.
POSITION SUMMARY
The employee will work collaboratively with school personnel in completing maintenance projects and ensuring smooth operations of the Lowell School District. Duties will include managing and coordinating MOT department duties and projects and with the technology department on projects and duties as well. The Maintenance Operation & Technology Specialist performs routine building and grounds maintenance and repairs to enhance the learning environment for students.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain the District’s school buildings, equipment and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of District facilities
- Assist in promoting the safety, health and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds
- Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects
- Perform preventive maintenance, repair and installation in connection with the exterior and interior of buildings and school grounds
- Operate and maintain boiler heating and all other central heating and air systems
- Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings as directed
- Work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools
- Act as a substitute custodian, groundskeeper and vehicle driver when necessary
- Complete work orders thoroughly and promptly
- Maintain equipment used in the course of work
- Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards and correct these as directed
- Implement emergency preparedness procedures in District buildings in the event of any emergency
- Set up, take down and arrange chairs, tables and related equipment for District activities
- Direct visitors according to District policy
- Safeguard school property
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality
- Operate heavy duty machinery and equipment
- Perform other related duties as assigned

- Quickly acquire a working knowledge of departmental policies and procedures
- Plan, organize, prioritize and complete a high volume of work in a calm, timely and efficient manner
- Analyze situations carefully and adopt effective courses of action
- Interpret and apply department policies and procedures
- Ability and desire to increase skills and experience through professional development training as required by the District
- Compile information, maintain extensive records and prepare reports as needed within the department
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing to staff and community
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early morning or evening hours when needed
- Ability to be assigned complex additional duties and assignments as needed
- Perform support functions requiring independent judgment, decision making and problem solving
- Research information and compose memos, letters and other correspondence in a professional manner as directed
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand or walk for prolonged times during the workday. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds (safety equipment is available if needed). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee works both
